| Go north to the capital at Yamoussoukro,
to visit "Our Lady of Peace" Cathedral, the largest basilica in the world
after the Vatican. See the former president's home and the moat full of
sacred crocodiles. From here you have the option of going north or west.
The extended tour includes both areas. En route to the north, you pass
through the pottery village of Katiola. |
 |
The north is home to the Lobi
and the Senoufo people, and the last refuge of the country's elephants
in Comoé Park. From Korhogo, you will travel to several villages
where Senoufo artisans create woven and hand-painted textiles. They are
also known for their fabulous masks and sacred dances which are regularly
performed for visitors. Visit Koni to see blacksmiths using traditional
forges. |
 |
 |
To the west lies Man and the realm
of the Yacouba people. Picturesque villages dot the countryside in a land
of mountainous rain forest. Discover exotic waterfalls and the famous liané
vine bridges. Tour some of the villages to see traditional dances of acrobats
and stiltwalkers. Explore the city of Man and shop for beads and masks.
At the end of your trip, spend a day at Grand Bassam and relax on the beautiful
beach. |
